Module Seven: Promoting Children's Personal and Cultural Identity

Session 1: Valuing and Making a Commitment to Cultural Competency
We discuss the meaning and importance of culture in our lives and the life of a child. We examine our role in helping children achieve a positive cultural identity. We investigage community resources to support a child's cultural traditions and ways to incorporate culture into daily life. We also explore the challenges to managing diversity in the family.

Session 2: Helping Children Develop Lifebooks
We look at how Lifebooks can be used with Children to record thier life stories in a way that promotes a child's positive sense of identity and self-esteem. We practice concrete ways to discuss sensitive issues and record the positive aspects of a child's life.
