Knowledge and Skills in Child Welfare Practice and CPS Assessments

- CPS Authority/Child Abuse and Neglect Law
Day 2:
- CPS Responsibilities and Critical Outcomes
- Child Abuse and Neglect Factors
Day 3:
- CPS Assessment Process
Day 4:
- CPS Assessment Process
- Safety, Strength, Risk Assessment
Day 5:
- Assessment Interviews
- Preparing the Written Assignment
Week II: 5 days
Strengths Based Planning/Wraparound Certification
Day 1:
- Introduction to Strengths Based Planning/Wraparound
- The Wraparound Process
- Values, Beliefs and Principles
- Cultural Considerations
Day 2:
- Building Relationships with Families
- Strengths Inventory
- Family Assessment
Day 3:
- The Team Process
- Child and Family Team
Day 4:
- Child and Family Teams
- Developing & Writing Family Service/Treatment Plans
- Safety Planning
Day 5:
- Single Plan of Care Computer Application
Week III: 4 days
Legal Considerations in Child Welfare
Day 1:
- Cultural Considerations/ICWA
Day 2:
- Introduction to the Legal Process
- Juvenile Court
Day 3:
- Writing Affidavits
- Role of the States Attorney
- Testifying

Week IV: 5 days
Developing Skills in the Placement of Children
Day 1:
- Foster Care Licensing
- Recruitment and Retention
Day 2:
- Foster PRIDE
- Foster Home Assessment
- Attachment and Separation
Day 3:
- Concurrent Planning/Permanency Planning
- Placement Considerations
Day 4:
- Independent Living
- Special Needs Adoptions/AASK
- Foster Parent Pane
Trainees will receive the Child Welfare Practitioner Certificate
upon satisfactory completion of the program. It is our expectation
that trainees will make a commitment to complete the entire program
when they enroll in a session.
Attendance/Absences
Attendance is required for the entire training program. If a trainee
is absent, she/he will need to make arrangements with CFSTC to
complete the work for that day(s) and reschedule to meet attendance
requirements.
